CAVILAM is a non-profit making French language school in Vichy, France. Founded in 1964 by the Universities of Clermont-Ferrandand the town of Vichy, we use varied and innovative language teaching methods to teach French as a foreign language.

CAVILAM is open all year round and over 110 nationalities study French as a foreign language with us annually. We are proud to be not only a leading French language school in France, but also a French crossroads of world cultures.

HISTORY
Cavilam was founded by the municipality of Vichy and the two universities of Clermont-Ferrand.
It is co-presided by the mayor of the town and the chancellor of Blaise Pascal University.
The municipality is responsible for for the administrative and financial side. The two universities are in charge of the teaching methods used and contribute to setting up quality programmes.

LOCATION
Vichy is situated in the centre of the second largest urban area in Auvergne and has a population of 78000. Vichy hosts the sub-prefecture of the county of Allier and lies in the centre of France in the north of the Auvergne region and the heart of the “Bourbon Country”, the cradle of the Bourbon dynasty. The town boasts idyllic surroundings on the banks of the river Allier, and is only 55kms from Clermond-Ferrand, the region capital. It is easy to get to Vichy as the town is located aat the crossroads of major European road links.
Surrounded by wide open spaces, parks and verdant gardens, lively shops-filled streets and historic monuments, Vichy is a town of indescribable charm.

THE GROUNDS
The campus Cavilam is located in exceptional surroundings:in the campus of the new University and Technology centre in Vichy, right in the centre of town and in a park beside the river Allier.
The 9000 m2 building is equipped with the most up-to-date equipment which includes 30 classrooms, a lecture hall, 2 large multipurpose rooms, a mediatheque, 4 multi-media laboratories, a student common-room…
Both French and foreign student are welcome there and are in permanent contact with eachother.
The mediatheque has many text books and two multimedia rooms with computers equipped with educational software, CD ROMs and internet access. The students will also find 30 computers at their disposal freee of charge which they can use for their studies o for searching  for something on the internet, a library offering daily papers, periodicals and reference materials, as a language laboratory to improve their pronunciation and comprehension and a video room to watch and work on audio-visual documents.
A teacher is present to guide and help student make the right choice.

Cavilam has earned an international reputation due to its serious and efficient teaching programmes. The competence of the Student Welfare and Accommodation Department and the wide range of cultural and leisure activities that it organizes. The quality of these services is assessed on a regular basis.

TEACHING STAFF
All our teachers are specialists, have university diplomas and follow regular training courses to perfect their teaching methods. Many of them have written textbooks, are responsible for training both students and other teachers and run courses to learn new skills.

TEACHING METHODS
The students are in France! The teachers teach their mother tongue! The students take an active part in the lessons right from the beginning!
The teachers hold a staff meeting every Tuesday to discuss the structure of the lessons and the progress made by each student so as to ensure that they stay in the group beat adapted to their level.
Our teaching methods enable the students to progress at their own pace as rapidly as possible.
Teaching materials include authentic documents: press, articles, videos, films, clips, songs, literature…. The grammar and pronunciation of the language are also studied systematically.

THE COURSES
All our French as a foreign Language courses suits all types of student:
intensive French Courses are designed for any overseas student wishing to learn French from scratch or become proficient in the language at any time of the year and as long as the student wishes.
The structure of the course comprising general French teaching one the one hand and more specific classes in language workshops on the other, enable us to meet to meet the increasingly wider range of requirements requested by the students. Furthermore, the self study options (unlimited access to audio and video equipments and computers) with a teacher as a guide complement the other activities for no extra charge.courses, which take place on one-to-one basis or in small groups, offer more intensive, specific classes. For example, these programs would be ideal for those who whish to acquire more precise skills in the shortest time possible. Naturally, it is possible to combine intensive lessons in groups with one-to-one classes.
French Courses with preparation for the examinations set by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris.  www.ccip.fr are also able to offer specific program (French for International Relations, Secretarial French, Legal French, Medical French, French for other specific purposes, etc.), for groups of the same level and which include tuition and cultural and leisure activities at the same time.
We are able to offer group of school children on “class trips”, tailor-made courses.
The duration, dates and type of course are decided through common arrangement with the teachers/organisers.
“Sport and Language courses” are also offered either on a one-to-one basis or in groups. These courses consist of French classes in the morning anad sport in the afternoon. For two weeks, young foreign students spend their time in the company of French children.
